Club Champs Finals Saturday (plus barbecue!) Sponsored by Currie & Quirk All finals will take place this Saturday from 11am onwards as follows: 11am - Mixed Doubles semi final To Follow -  Mens Over 35 Final  Gordon McGuigan v Stuart Clarke 1pm - Mens /Ladies Singles Finals +  Barbecue begins! To follow - Not before 3pm Mens/Ladies Doubles Finals To Follow - Not before 4pm Mixed Doubles & Mens Plate Finals Prize giving - 5pm approx. (includes junior event winners) Ladies Over 35 singles final will take place on Friday at 10am between Maggie McLellan & Julia Campbell Mens singles semis are taking place as follows: Thursday 12 noon - Hamish Stewart v Ian Campbell Friday 6pm - Jason Cask v Euan Gibson Smith Both matches are junior v senior affairs with Hamish as no 1 seed and Euan the no 2 seed - both juniors!

Quiz Night - Friday 14th October The next social event to be held in the members’ bar will be a Quiz Night on Friday 14th October - a wide variety of questions for all tastes and valuable prizes on offer! We will start at 8pm, with a break for light bites from Caffe Parma and there will be an entrance fee of £10 per team. Teams can be up to a maximum of 4, with friends and family welcome, but no need to organise them before the night. Hope you can make it and RSVP as soon as possible so that I can have an idea of how much food to order    Allan.Mowat@glasgow.ac.uk  Caffe Parma 1st year Anniversary  - Sunday 23rd October Now that we have settled into the restaurant, we want to get stuck into the members bar and get a few regular nights and events on the calendar. We would like to gauge the level of interest for a wine club. Potentially it would be every six weeks, there will be tasting, nibbles and an opportunity to stock up on your favourites.  Please let us know if you are interested. Our first birthday is coming up at the end of the month.  We will be celebrating on Sunday 23rd with live music in the restaurant, and we would love to see you there. The Jack Ruby 5 Jazz, Blues & Samba Grooves 3-6pm The Caffe Parma team. Treatment room opening soon in club! There will be a new treatment room for various disciplines including physio, nutrition,osteopathy etc opening early November in what was our old cellar. Work is taking place at the moment and this area will be managed by Faith Johns who some of you may know as a member of the club.Faith has been operating in the gym room upstairs up until now as an osteopath but will soon have a new , more spacious room downstairs.. Squash Court Maintenance Annual squash maintenance will take place from Thursday November 10th until Wednesday 16th. Courts 1 & 2 will be operational from Monday 14th and court 1 from Wed 16th so as not to disrupt match nights

Our annual Christmas dinner will be at Caffe Parma on Saturday 10th December. To sign up all you have to do is pay a deposit direct with staff in restaurant. Max 60 like last year. 

Club News: MUSIC NIGHT in the Members' Bar There will be live music in the Bar Friday 16th September for members and friends. Doors at 730 pm. The club are trying to organise more social events in the newly refurbished bar so please feel free to come along and join us for a drink. This event is free but places are limited so please email geoff.cordwell@me.com to go on the guest list. NEW BAR MENU There is a new bar menu coming THIS WEEK. Great value food especially for members. Ask bar staff for details. SUNDAY MORNING SPECIAL OFFER You can now get a bacon roll and a tea or coffee in the bar for only £5 on Sunday mornings up to 12 pm.

Walker Wylie West End Tennis Tournament

Dear Tennis member,

We are writing to invite you to enter the West End Tennis Tournament.

The online closing date is 20th July at 10 am so it would be great if you could enter ON TIME and ON LINE!!

which also gives a brief synopsis of what we plan to do i.e. run it more flexibly over a month with scheduled ties from the quarters or semi finals onwards (depending on size of the draw).

So although the closing date is 20th July, early ties would be played flexibly over the first 2 - 3 weeks in August with quarters/ semi final ties scheduled in the 10 days or so leading up to Finals Day.

Finals Day will be at HILLHEAD on Saturday 27th August and the scheduled ties from the semis will be at Western and Hillhead. The JUNIOR events will be SCHEDULED and run over the weekend of the 19/20/21 August with Finals Day also on 27th August.

Free buffet and see Murray beat Raonic at the club!

As promised Caffe Parma will be offering a free buffet from 1pm - 1.45pm on Sunday  (for members) in the members bar to celebrate Andy Murray winning Wimbledon for the 2nd time! Maybe not as Raonic is looking good but here's hoping........ This will be a selection of starters and some pizza slices and all you have to do is buy some drinks at the bar! Tennis Courts Online Booking System: We are going to launch online booking for the tennis courts in the next few weeks. If you already have a PIN number as a squash player, that will work ok. If you need a PIN to be able to book online, please contact alison@glasgowwestern.co.uk Midgierakers in the Member's Bar! To celebrate the opening of the renovated member's bar, we will be holding an informal Music Night on Friday 22nd July from 8pm. This will feature one of our members, Craig Daly and his band The Midgierakers playing a variety of traditional music (https://www.facebook.com/themidgierakers). Nibbles will be available and entry £5 per person. We’re planning this will be the first of a new series of social events in the bar and it should be a great night. Due to holidays there will be no Pilates classes during  July.

Classes will start back Tuesday 2nd August.
